Macon Launches Summer Fun Runs, Charity Walks Across City Parks
Macon residents can join several group fitness gatherings this summer along city trails and parks.
How we reported this

Three community fitness events open registration this week in Macon for July and August dates. The Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department listed a 5K fun run, a 2-mile charity walk and a monthly group hike on its public calendar.
Group exercise programs draw steady local turnout during the hottest months when indoor options thin out. City records show 1,200 residents joined at least one organized walk or run in 2025, up from 900 the prior year. Organizers cite rising interest after the opening of new trail segments along the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail.
Events set for Central City Park and Riverside Drive
The Macon Running Club hosts its annual Summer Stride 5K on July 20 at Central City Park starting at 7 a.m. Runners begin on Mulberry Street, loop through the park and finish near the fountain. Entry costs $20 for adults who register before July 12 and $25 on site. The same club will lead a free group walk every Thursday evening starting July 10 from the corner of Riverside Drive and Second Street.
The Middle Georgia Cancer Coalition schedules its 10th annual Hope Walk on August 9 at 8 a.m. Participants gather at the parking lot behind the Tubman Museum on Cherry Street. Funds raised support local screening programs at the Navicent Health campus. Last year 480 walkers raised $62,000.
Registration numbers and next steps
City data from 2024 recorded an average of 340 participants across three summer events, with the largest turnout at the July 5K. Early sign-ups for this year already reached 210 for the Summer Stride alone. Residents can register online through the county parks website or in person at the recreation center on Forest Hill Road. Anyone new to these distances should check with a physician before the start line.
Volunteers still need help at water stations along the August route. Contact the coalition office at 478-555-0142 for shift details.
